Something to look forward to! And, you won’t even have to cross a bridge!
Great place to learn how to cook winter veggies; taste yummy stuff; and see what clever local growers can offer in the colder months…….
WINTER FARMERS’ MARKET ON AQUIDNECK ISLAND OPENING SOON!
Aquidneck Growers’ Market is pleased to announce the opening of the island’s first wintertime farmers’ market at the parish hall of St. Mary’s Church in Portsmouth, RI. on Saturdays beginning November 10. The market will feature many of the farmers and vendors of the summer markets selling local fruits and vegetables, pasture raised meats and eggs, fresh seafood, breads, pastries, and a fine selection of freshly ground coffees! Live music, local artisans and hot lunch items from local chefs will round out the event that will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Saturday, with the traditional and special Thanksgiving Market to be held at St. Mary’s on November 17.
The new winter market is the first event in a larger proposal to renovate St. Mary’s old parish hall for use by the island community as a center for sustainability, planned to also feature a lecture series, a community garden, incubator farm plots, walking trails through the surrounding acres of newly preserved open space and a peace garden. Many community organizations have collaborated on the initial planning stages for the future of this building: St. Mary’s Church, Aquidneck Land Trust, Sustainable Aquidneck and EcoRI, in addition to many other community members.
Please join us to celebrate the opening of the market at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 10 when Ken Ayars, Chief of RI’s Division of Agriculture will cut the opening ribbon.
St. Mary’s Church is located at 324 East Main Road, Portsmouth, RI 02842.
