DATE:        August 22, 2012

SUBJECT:  Ann Street Pier Extension

Alliance For A Livable Newport (ALN) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit volunteer organization whose mission is to improve the quality of life in the City of Newport.  Its Board of Directors include representatives from all of Newport’s neighborhood associations.

At a meeting of the Board on Monday, August 20, 2012, the Directors voted overwhelmingly to support the City of Newport’s efforts to extend the Ann Street Pier and to endorse the comments in support of that effort being presented by Newport’s Waterfront Commission and by the Friends of the Waterfront organization.

It is ALN’s position that the proposed pier extension will enhance Newport’s attraction to the boating community significantly, further facilitating the City’s tourism and expanding public access to the waterfront, without unduly inconveniencing the abutters.

They will putting together a questionnaire that will be posted on its website with candidates’ answers, and are seeking public input.
